Chemical Chinese name: sodium hyposulfite Chemical English name: sodium hyposulfite
Chinese name 2: insurance powder English name 2: sodium dithionite
Technical specification code: 482
CAS No.: 7775-14-6
Molecular formula: Na2S2O4
Molecular weight: 174.11
Hazardous ingredient: CAS No.
Sodium hydrosulfite: 7775-14-6
The main purpose
Hydrosulfite is widely used in reductive dyeing, reductive cleaning, printing and decolorization in the textile industry and for bleaching of silk, wool, nylon and other fabrics. Because it does not contain heavy metals, the bleached fabrics are bright in color and not easy to fade. In terms of various substances, hydrosulfite can also be used for food bleaching, such as gelatin, sucrose, honey, etc., soap, animal (vegetable) oil, bamboo, and porcelain clay. Hydrosulfite can also be used in organic synthesis, such as reducing agent or bleaching agent in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is the most suitable bleaching agent for wood pulp and papermaking.
main hazard
Sodium hydrosulfite is commonly known as hydrosulfite, but hydrosulfite is actually not "insured". Numerous accidents have shown that sodium hydrosulfite is spontaneously flammable, explosive, toxic, flammable in water or acid, and its aqueous solution is unstable. Its nature determines its danger. Once an accident occurs, its fire danger is huge.
spontaneous combustion
Sodium dithionite has a self-ignition point of 250°C. Due to its low ignition point, it is a first-class flammable solid (the ignition point is generally below 300°C, and the flash point of the low melting point is below 100°C). It is extremely flammable when exposed to heat, fire, friction and impact. The burning speed is fast and the fire risk is high. The gaseous hydrogen sulfide gas generated during the combustion process may also cause a larger burning area and increase its fire risk.
Fire-fighting measures
Hazardous properties: strong reducing agent. It can spontaneously ignite at 250°C. Combustible by heating or contact with open flame. It will be oxidized and deteriorated when exposed to air. In contact with water, acids or organic matter and oxidants, it can release a lot of heat and cause violent combustion and release sulfur dioxide.

Hazardous combustion products: sulfides.

Extinguishing method: Move the container from the fire area to an open place as much as possible. Extinguishing media: dry powder, carbon dioxide, sand. Plenty of water can be used, never a small amount.
Emergency release treatment
Isolate the leaked pollution area and restrict access. Cut off the source of ignition. It is recommended that emergency responders wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus.
  chemical protective clothing
Wear chemical protective clothing. Do not come into direct contact with spillage. Small spills: Avoid raising dust and collect with a clean shovel in a dry, clean, covered container. Large spills: Cover with dry lime, sand or soda ash, use non-sparking tools to collect for recycling or transport to waste disposal site for disposal.
Operational storage
Operation Precautions
Airtight operation, local exhaust. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter dust masks, safety glasses, chemical protective clothing and latex gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid generating dust. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids. Take particular care to avoid contact with water. When handling, it should be lightly loaded and unloaded to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with the corresponding variety and quantity of fire fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
Storage Precautions
Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. The relative humidity is kept below 75%. The packaging is required to be sealed and not in contact with the air. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, and combustibles, and should not be mixed. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Prohibit the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. Storage areas should be provided with suitable materials to contain spills.
